About this Game

  • Get the Bananas is a team based ESL game for two to six teams to practice vocabulary, answer questions and have a great time.

  • An exciting and silly game made for a full class with an interactive board, online lessons, or even just a laptop and a few students.

  • Add your own questions and a pictures.

  • After answers, students stop the wheel to advance their monkeys up the tree.  The first to reach the bananas wins!

  • Drop the coconut on an opposing team to knock them down the tree.  Just be careful because you might just bonk your own monkey!

How to Get the Bananas Easily with No Prep

  • Divide your students into teams.  You can have anywhere between two to six teams.

  • Ask a question to all of the teams of students.

  • The fastest team to answer correctly can spin the game wheel.

  • Depending on where the wheel stops, that team's monkey will climb or they will need to drop a coconut.  If they drop a coconut, a monkey will appear at the top holding a coconut.  They should watch the monkey and press the shown button when the monkey is above an opposing them.  The monkey will drop the coconut and hit that team's monkey...sending it a bit down the tree.

  • The game ends once a team has gotten their team's bananas.

Game Modes Available in Get the Bananas

Team Mode: 2-6 teams compete to answer your class questions and help their monkey climb to the top of their tree to grab the bananas.

Free Play: In free play, you the teacher are in complete control of the game.  You can freely ask your class questions and then have a member of that team roll the dice.  Then, tap that team's banana a number of times equal to the number they rolled.  That will make the monkey climb.  Again, the first team to reach the bananas wins.

The English lesson games available from Happy Everyday English can only be played on Windows computers.

  • 2-6 Teams of Students:   Select how many teams will play in the current game.

 

Built with Interactive Whiteboards in Mind: This game is fully playable with interactive whiteboards and responds great to touch on the board.  You can also play it in a classroom with just a projector or online.

 

Randomized Results: After a team answers the questions, they must spin the wheel or roll the dice.  The results are always random because of this.

 

Question Prompts: There are four question prompts that you can use when playing this game.  Although you can play this game with no prep, you can customize it easily if you do have time to prepare.  You can change between these at will.  The game download includes directions on how to prepare prompts 2-4.


 

  • No prompt: Simply ask a question to your students without a prompt in the game.  Ask any question you like.  Using this mode takes no preperation before starting the game.

  • Text Question Prompt: Prepare text questions and answers in advance using the included text document file.  This prompt will display your prepared questions when playing.

  • Picture Prompt: This prompt displays pictures that you've prepared in advance.

  • Keyword Prompt:  This prompt displays a set of keywords that you've prepared in advance.
